Dorchester Road, Worcester Park

Persistence is key

Dorchester Road is a new three bedroom detached bungalow on a Backland Garden site in South West London. The project was granted planning permission at appeal after a complicated planning process due to the nature of the existing Backland Garden site. The proposed house is modest in scale and form and was designed to have minimal impact on the surrounding houses and gardens.

Dynamic design with a personal touch

Privacy has been maintained whilst giving each room access to the external garden and surrounding courtyard spaces. These external spaces are semi-private but link to form a coherent landscape design that connects all parts of the house. The form of the roof has been articulated to distinguish between the separate volumes of the house with a mono-pitched roof.

Homes that go with the flow

The environmental impact of the house has been mitigated by the inclusion of sedum matting to the pitched roof and bioretention planting that forms part of a SUDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage System) landscaping proposal. A simple palette of neutral materials has been chosen to further minimise the impact of the house on its surroundings.
